We leave you with a shot of our favourite tree in the garden this month – the Chanticleer pear (Pyrus calleryana 'Chanticleer'). Though lovely throughout the year, in December it really takes the breath away; hanging onto its rich, autumn-hued leaves well after most other deciduous trees have given up the ghost. It can grow almost anywhere, doesn't get too large, and erupts in beautiful white blossom in spring. Definitely a candidate for 'desert island' tree..!
